Primary and Further Education

There are many ways and possibilities to obtain a degree in nutritional sciences.

The SGE (Swiss Society for Nutrition) has compiled the range of educational opportunities in Switzerland in an information sheet.

In addition, there are many opportunities to study nutrition outside of Switzerland. The objectives of SWAN are to strengthen and make visible the competences and diverse professional fields of SWAN members with Swiss and foreign degrees in all nutrition-related fields.

We show a selection of education and training paths on this page by means of a series of portraits.

"The Master's course in "Applied Nutritional Medicine" - a cooperation course between the FH Joanneum (Graz and Bad Gleichenberg) and MedUni Graz - is unique in many ways:

a well-coordinated combination of teaching current, scientific theory in the sense of "Evidence Based Medicine" and relevant, everyday practice.

a unique study community of nutritionists (Switzerland), dieticians (Austria), dieticians (Germany) and medical doctors

a holistic view of the current world of nutrition with the aim of learning and living an interweaving of perspectives between science and practice

From the very beginning, the continuing education programme (120 ECTS) promised a holistic view of the complex field of nutritional medicine.

The unique combination of current theory with direct practical relevance as well as the connection to cross-sectional competences such as quality management, research and public health were what motivated me, as a non-clinically active nutritionist in health promotion, to study. Looking back, I consider it a personal, small masterstroke that I managed to fly to Austria for 10 days every 2-3 months as a project manager with an 80% workload and a mother with a 100% workload and to fulfil my role as a student with a 100% workload."
